Treasure of the Black Hole by S. Evan Townsend #11

When private detective Rick Bailey is hired by the exotically beautiful and outrageously wealthy Princess Nora, he thinks it’ll be easy money. Escaping from her rebellion-torn kingdom, the princess has lost her handmaiden, Lores: the only person who knows how to find the hidden royal jewels.

But when his search for the equally lovely Lores turns deadly, Bailey realizes that there is more to this case than it first seemed. When someone tries to kill him, he discovers that the roots of evil run deep.

With his own set of values and sense of honor, Bailey must keep one step ahead of murderous mobsters, secret government operatives, and a genetically enhanced Lores as he races across the galaxy in search of the truth. The only things he knows he can trust are his eight-foot-tall ladybug-like girl Friday and a powerful weapon that responds to his thoughts.

Will Bailey find the treasure of the black hole in time and will he survive long enough to discover why it is something worth killing for?

Set 3,000 years into the future, Treasure of the Black Hole brings the film noir private detective genre into the era of spaceships, alien beings, and ray guns. It is the first book in a series (Treasures of Space) that included Treasure of the Pirate Planet and Treasure of the Rogue Moon.

S. Evan Townsend has been called “America’s Unique Speculative Fiction Voice” and writes novels that cause thrills and rapid page-turning. He is not responsible for paper cuts.

Townsend grew up in southeastern Idaho (to his everlasting shame). He moved to Washington State at the age of 18 and never looked back. He has been a disk jockey at a small local country music station (even though he prefers classic rock), a fast-food worker, a bartender, a pizza restaurant assistant manager, and an unemployed, starving writer. He spent four long years in the U.S. Army in the Military Intelligence branch. While in the military, he lived in Pacific Grove, California; San Angelo, Texas; Ft. Devens, Massachusetts; and Salinas, California. After separating from the Army, he returned to civilian life and college to earn a B.S. in Forest Resources from the University of Washington (Go Dawgs!) in Seattle. He spent 20 years in the corporate life and then “retired” to become a freelance writer and an author. He has had his work published in several magazines and newspapers.

In his spare time, he enjoys reading both fiction and non-fiction, driving (sometimes very fast on a racetrack), meeting new people, and talking with old friends. He is in a 12-step program for Starbucks addiction (the first step is admitting you have a problem; he’s yet to take that step). Evan lives in central Washington State with his wife and has three grown sons and one cute grandson. He enjoys science fiction, fantasy, history, politics, cars, and travel. Townsend is passionate about University of Washington Husky football (Go Dawgs).
